Healing Our Community from Our Addiction Epidemic: Take the First Step – Camden Public Library – Tuesday, January 10 @ 6:30 PM – Sponsored by the Midcoast Recovery Coalition.
Knox County has a very serious drug addiction problem that has already damaged thousands of lives forever. Teenagers are particularly vulnerable with 10% of them becoming addicted, most by 15 years of age. The number of babies born from drug addicted mothers in our community has more than quadrupled over the past 10 years. Every year, the epidemic gets worse and it will continue to worsen until the community acknowledges the problems and chooses to becomes part of the solution. There is much to do to reduce the rate of drug addiction in Knox County.
Take the first step by coming to view “The Hungry Heart,” a movie released in 2013 about how the opiate epidemic has affected Vermont and how they have striven to respond to the crisis. The situation and the solutions are virtually identical to those in midcoast Maine.
The first step in “recovery” as a community is to admit that there is a problem and that there is a need to unite as a community in response. Please see this movie and stay for a discussion about what can be done. Contact the Midcoast Recovery Coalition (MCRC) by phone 701-1182 or by email at info@midcoastrecovery.org.
