The Summit Project Honor Case on display through mid-January
PORTLAND, Maine -- Beginning on December 4, 2016 and continuing through the holiday season into mid-January 2017, the Portland Jetport is honored to host The Summit Project Honor Case. The case will be on public display on the 3rd floor of the Jetport.
The public is invited to participate in a special tribute trek and reception on January 7, 2017.
The Summit Project is a living memorial to the fallen service members from Maine who have died since September 11, 2001. The mission of the Project is to honor our state’s newest war casualties and the faithful spirit of all Mainers.
The surviving families of Maine’s fallen have each unearthed and donated a special stone that represents their loved ones. Beginning on Memorial Day 2014, volunteers have hiked up and down mountains in Maine carrying these stones in their packs, making the Summit Project a living memorial. The tribute hikes have become a symbol of solidarity that recognizes the burden shouldered by our brave Maine service members and their families. In that sense, the spirit and memory of our fallen Maine heroes remains alive.
Anyone wishing to take part in the hike should contact Judy Harris at jh@portlandmaine.gov.
