Road Closures for Thursday & Friday in Portland

Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler Road Race on Thursday & Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday

PLUS - No trash & recycling collection on Thursday & Friday

PORTLAND, Maine – More than 1,500 runners are expected to take part in the 35th  Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler road race in Portland tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 AM and resulting in multiple road closures. The kids run begins at 8:30 AM.

The following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic on Thursday, November 24 from 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM:

Congress Street – from High Street to Franklin Street
Franklin Street – from Congress to Commercial Street
Exchange Street
Free Street
Federal Street Extension
Temple Street – from Congress Street to Middle Street

Volunteers and police officers will be on hand to help divert and direct traffic.

On Friday, November 25, 2016, the Portland Downtown District is hosting the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Monument Square from 5:00 PM – 6:45 PM.

For this event, Congress Street – between Preble and Elm Streets – will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM. The closing for east bound traffic will begin at Brown Street. Federal Street Extension will also be closed to vehicular traffic, but only from 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM. Also on the evening of November 25, horse drawn wagon rides will begin downtown from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, picking up and dropping off from Monument Square. The rides are free to the public.

HOLIDAY TRASH COLLECTION NOTICE
There will be no trash & recycling collection on Thursday and Friday (November 24 and 25th) because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Collection will occur the following week. This also applies to leaf collection.
