Leaving Home, Finding Home: The Poetry of the Refugee Experience

A poetry reading by Ellen Goldsmith and others will take place at the Cushing Public Library on Sunday, December 4 from 2-4 pm. Leaving Home, Finding Home explores the refugee and immigrant experience through 10 poems by an international array of poets. Their voices capture and react to the realities, challenges and dilemmas of altered lives. In varied voices, a different reader will present and respond to each poem and attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the poems as well. This event is free and open to all.

Ellen Goldsmith is the author of three poetry collections, Where to Look, Such Distances and No Pine Tree in This Forest Is Perfect which won the Slapering Hol Chapbook Prize. She teaches poetry for Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, the 5-Towns CSD Adult and Continuing Education and the Coastal Senior College. A professor Emeritus of the City University of New York, she lives in Cushing.

This presentation is hosted by the Cushing Public Library and offered as a free community event in in anticipation of the 30th Annual Camden Conference –Refugees and Global Migration: Humanity’s Crisis, February 17-19, 2017.
