Ellsworth, Maine - The Grand announces “Eye in the Sky” as the first film in its weekly Autumn CineGrand series. Screening on Tuesday September 6th at 7:30 pm and Wednesday September 7th at 1:00 pm the film is a look at drone warfare featuring the last onscreen appearance of an acting legend.
“Eye in the Sky” stars Helen Mirren as Colonel Katherine Powell, a UK-based military officer in command of a top secret drone operation to capture terrorists in Kenya. Through remote surveillance and on-the-ground intel, Powell discovers the targets are planning a suicide bombing and the mission escalates from “capture” to “kill”. But as American pilot Steve Watts (“Breaking Bad”'s Aaron Paul) is about to engage, a nine-year old girl enters the kill zone, triggering an international dispute reaching the highest levels of US and British government over the moral, political, and personal implications of modern warfare. With Alan Rickman (in his last onscreen performance), Barkhad Abdi (an Oscar™ nominee for “Captain Philips”), Jeremy Northam, Iain Glen and Phoebe Fox.
The Autumn CineGrand series of films screen every Tuesday at 7:30 pm and Wednesday at 1:00 pm at The Grand in Ellsworth. Ticket prices are for general admission seating for each movie and are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for Grand members.
