Portland Fire Department Releases Funeral Information for Captain Michael Kucsma

Portland, Maine – The Portland Fire Department is releasing finalized funeral arrangements for Captain Michael Kucsma.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday June 20th between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home located at 199 Woodfords St in Portland.

An Ecumenical funeral service with honors will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception located at 196 Cumberland Ave in Portland, beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday June 21st 2014.  A uniform presence has been requested by the family.

A large turnout is expected. Mike Kucsma was well liked and respected firefighter in Portland and Gorham Maine as well as known in many circles across Maine and the New England Region.  The Portland Fire Department, with the help of generous
business leaders in the area, has secured offsite parking for both the wake and funeral.

To avoid congestion in the Woodfords Corner area Friday evening, visitors are asked to park at Cheverus High School located at 267 Ocean Ave in Portland.  Shuttles will provide transportation to and from the funeral home.  The shuttles will be available for the duration of the visitation hours.

For the funeral service Saturday morning, Parking will be provided in the parking lots on either side of Myrtle St between Cumberland and Congress St.   When those lots have reached capacity, attendees will be directed to an alternative location. Shuttles will provide transportation to and from the Cathedral as needed.

Persons with disabilities needing assistance with parking should speak with any police or fire official for directions on where to park.

A reception will immediately follow the funeral at the Italian Heritage Center at 40 Westland Ave Portland, Maine.  All are welcome to attend to share stories or learn more about Mike’s life.   Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Michael's memory to the Portland Firefighters Children’s Burn Foundation at 380 Congress St Portland Maine 04101.
 
Michael Kucsma died of a heart attack while scuba diving Monday afternoon near Portland’s Back Cove. Kucsma was a 21 year veteran fire Captain on Engine 6 stationed at Bramhall fire Station on Congress St in Portland’s West End.
