Celebrate The Glory Days at the Owls Head Transportation Museum

Owls Head, Maine - The fuzzy dice and big fins of the 1950s and 1960s meet the sheer power of 1970s muscle cars at the Owls Head Transportation Museum’s Glory Days Car and Antique Aeroplane Show, Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6. Often referred to as the automobile industry’s most iconic decades, vehicles produced during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s are always crowd pleasers. The Glory Days show will also feature a celebration of the Ford Mustang in honor of the beloved vehicle’s 50th year in production.

Owners of 1950s, 1960s and 1970s vehicles, Ford Mustangs of any vintage and all organized automobile clubs are invited to exhibit their vehicles on Runway 17, the Museum’s family-friendly outdoor exhibit area. While the theme of this popular show is The Glory Days, featuring ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s vehicles, guests arriving in their pre-1994 vehicles receive free admission at this show and all other Museum (non-auction) events. Exhibitor gates open at 8:00 am.

Show hours are 9:00 am until 3:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. The Owls Head Transportation
Museum will observe standard closing time, remaining open until 5:00 pm both days.

In addition to an assortment of classic vehicles, an array of family activities will include vehicle demonstrations, dirt track racers, free Model T rides and (weather permitting) antique aeroplane demonstrations. Remember, they fly early, so try to get to the Museum in the morning to see our planes in action!

Thier popular Kid Corral pedal car area will be open all day Saturday and Sunday so that children can practice their driving prowess in our collection of fun pedal cars.

Antique aeroplane demonstrations will commence weather permitting and planes planned for demonstration include our 1930 Curtiss-Wright Travel Air D-4000 Speedwing , our 1917 SPAD in its new checkerboard paint scheme, our 1933 Waco, our 1918 Standard J-1 and our beloved 1917 Fokker DR.I triplane (aka the Red Baron). Open flightline is scheduled on each afternoon during the show and provides an opportunity for visitors to see, hear and experience the planes close up and visit with our pilots.

They fly early so plan to visit in the morning to see the antique aeroplane show.

Ground Vehicle Conservator Warren Kincaid said a number of museum collection vehicles will be demonstrated and may include our 1932 Ford Cragar Racer, 1886 Benz replica, 1908 Overland Roadster, 1933 Pierce Arrow and many more.  Several vehicles that have never previously been demonstrated will be run as part of The Glory Days show. Event sponsor Rockland Ford will exhibit several exemplary Ford Mustangs from their showroom.
