Trekkers Invites Cyclists to Join ‘Pedal to the Port’ Coastal Ride in August

Trekkers, a youth mentoring nonprofit in the Midcoast, invites bicycle enthusiasts to ride in the sixth annual Pedal to the Port event on Sunday, August 17th. This family friendly bike ride offers three coastal routes with views of the St. George peninsula. This benefit ride is open to all levels of riders, from casual to expert.

Two of the routes feature an ocean-side trek along with a rest stop at the historic Marshall Point Lighthouse in the village of Port Clyde. There is also a family-friendly 8 mile option and a guided ride for Trekkers students. New this year, all routes will begin and end at the American Legion Hall in Thomaston. All registered riders will receive a Pedal to the Port T-shirt and will enjoy the complimentary post-ride cookout luncheon.

Registration is free to riders participating in a team of four or more members. Registration is $25 for an individual rider. Trekkers is asking that all participants raise a minimum of $100 in pledges. Riders can register online by visiting www.pedaltotheport.com or at the American Legion Hall on the morning of the ride, beginning at 7:45 a.m.  The ride will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Previous Pedal to the Port participants have given positive feedback about the fundraising event. “This is a beautiful ride, led by happy caring people, for a great organization,” commented one participant. Pedal to the Port is a hallmark fundraising event for Trekkers. Proceeds from the event will benefit Trekkers’ expeditionary learning programs for local youth.

Currently celebrating its 20th anniversary of working with young people, Trekkers connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. This year, the organization serves more than 200 youth and involves more than 100 adult mentors from the communities of Cushing, Owls Head, Rockland, South Thomaston, St. George and Thomaston.
