Southern Maine Athletics To Honor 2020 Husky Hall of Fame Class on October 17

The 35th Husky Hall of Fame Ceremony is Presented by Army ROTC

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Department of Athletics will honor its most recent additions to the Husky Hall of Fame as part of its 35th Husky Hall of Fame induction on Sunday, October 17 at the Sheraton at Sable Oaks in South Portland, Maine.  The eight new inductees will bring the total number of former Southern Maine standouts in the Husky Hall of Fame to 235.  Long-time Husky fan and sports anchor Dave Eid, of Channel 13 Sports, will serve as the event’s emcee. 


Reconvening to celebrate the outstanding

legacies and performances of past USM student-athletes, coaches and administrators, the Husky Hall of Fame -  presented by Army ROTC  - returns after a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the presenting sponsorship from the ARMY ROTC, the Husky Hall of Fame is supported by University Credit Union, Yankee Ford and Saco Bay Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy.  


“The Husky Hall of Fame ceremony is an integral part of our tradition building that supports and promotes the great history of USM Athletics, its former student-athletes, coaches and staff” noted USM Director of Athletics Al Bean.  “I’m genuinely excigted that we will be returning to an in-person format to honor this deserving group of former Husky greats and share in the joy and camaraderie of what always proves to be a memorable event.” 


The Husky Hall of Fame Class of 2020 includes standouts from Southern Maine’s baseball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, and track & field, field hockey, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, and women’s track & field.

Established in the fall of 1985 with its initial induction in 1986, the Husky Hall of Fame was created to recognize outstanding athletic achievements of graduates of the University of Southern Maine and its predecessor institutions (Western Maine Normal School, Gorham Normal School, Gorham State Teachers College, the University of Maine Portland, and the University of Maine Portland-Gorham).  The first seven men and two women inducted into the inaugural Husky Hall of Fame class were selected from nearly 50 nominees.  Each of the 2020 inductees were selected on the basis of superior athletic and academic achievement, and a commitment to their communities after graduation.

Darci Holland, Field Hockey & Softball, Class of 2005

      A two-sport standout as a member of the Huskies’ field hockey and softball teams, Darci Holland earned All-Little East Conference first-team honors in 2002, 2003, and 2004 as an outfielder for the softball team, and was a two-time all-conference midfielder for the field hockey team (2002, 2003).  


      As a member of the Huskies’ softball team, Holland helped lead her team to a program record 33 wins during her senior season in 2004.  A career .283 hitter, Holland drove in 64 runs, scored 74, and totaled 123 career hits, including 32 doubles, which currently is seventh in Husky career records. 


      Totaling 10 goals and 15 assists for 35 points during her career, Holland was a member of the Huskies’ 2003 Little East Conference championship field hockey team, that advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen.  With a flair for the clutch, four of Holland’s 10 career goals went for game-winners.  


      In the 2003 Little East Conference Championship game, Holland put together an outstanding performance, figuring in all of the Huskies’ goals in a 3-1 victory over Keene State to secure the program’s first conference crown, and a bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.  Holland assisted on the Huskies’ first two goals before scoring the third goal of the game for her third goal of the season in the 50th minute to seal the win. 


      A four-time William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete and a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Holland earned her degree in Therapeutic Recreation in 2005, and went on to her master’s degree in Education from USM in 2009 with a specialty in K-8 Special Education.  Holland is a first and second grade multi-age teacher at a local school, working closely with the PATHS program (an in-school day treatment program for children with severe behavioral difficulties) in the district. Serving on several school and school district committees (Math Curriculum Team, Distance Learning Team, Response to Intervention Committee), Holland was the varsity field hockey coach at Cape Elizabeth High School for 10 years, and led the program’s youth development initiatives. Holland is also a member of the Maine Education Association, National Education Association and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  

 

Stacy (LeBlanc) Salvo, Women’s Soccer, Class of 2006

       A mainstay in the Huskies’ defense during her three-year career at Southern Maine, Stacy (LeBlanc) Salvo’s impact as a leader on and off the field extends beyond the stats sheet.  Finishing her career as a two-time first team All-Little East Conference (2004, 2005) defender, Salvo was a New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England pick in her senior year (2005).  A stalwart defender, Salvo played a major role in the 2005 squad that allowed just 20 goals in 22 games (.90 goals against per game), and helped the Huskies advance to the Little East Conference semifinals and earn a bid into the ECAC Championship tournament.  


      Transferring to USM from UMaine Farmington, Salvo quickly established herself as an integral part of the Huskies’ squad playing in 55 career games, and earning the role of captain as a senior.  Salvo’s leadership extended beyond the pitch, earning her recognition from at the University, regional and national level.  The 2006 recipient of the Athletic Department’s Paula D. Hodgdon Leadership Award, Salvo was named as the University’s and LEC’s Woman of the Year and was nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year honor.  


      A three-time William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete and co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Salvo earned the USM School of Business Outstanding Student-Award (2006), and was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the Golden Key International Honor Society.  


      Earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, Salvo graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing in 2006 and earned her Master of Business Administration in 2008.  Following her graduation, Salvo was the co-owner/Director of Business Operations for 14 Subway Sandwich franchises, stepping away after a decade of successful business to focus on her growing family.  A mother of two, Salvo is now working as a Market Analyst for Ticketdance, LLC – helping support and grow her husband’s business. 

 

Ryan Bourque, Baseball, Class of 2007

      A two-time All-American outfielder for the Huskies’ perennially successful baseball team, Ryan Bourque established himself as one of Southern Maine’s outstanding power hitters early in his career. Playing and starting in 169 career games, Bourque hit an outstanding .356 over four seasons, collecting 237 career hits while driving in 172 runs. During his four-year career the Huskies had a record of 115 wins, 59 losses and one tie. 


      More than a decade after his final at-bat, Bourque’s name still litters the USM record book.  Ranked fifth in career RBI (172), Bourque is also in the top ten for home runs (24), seventh in total bases (383), and seventh in doubles (52). Additionally, the former Husky outfielder is 12th all-time in hits. 


      Named an ABCA All-American in his junior year (2006), Bourque helped the Huskies to the Little East Conference regular-season title and a berth in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship tournament. During the 2006 season, Bourque hit an outstanding .395 with 73 hits in 185 at-bats with a career-best 53 RBI.  A two-year captain (2006, 2007), Bourque repeated as an All-American as a senior, and was named the 2007 Little East Conference Player of the Year among numerous honors.  


      Employed as a Transmission and Distribution Supervisor at the Portland Water District, Bourque earned his degree in Business Administration, and is the sole proprietor of Ryan Bourque Plumbing, LLC.  

 

Melissa (Bellemore) Mayo-Smith, Women’s Track & Field, Class of 2007

      From 2003 through 2007, the annotation of champion is next to Melissa (Bellemore) Mayo-Smith’s name in the results history of the New England Alliance/Little East Conference indoor and outdoor track & field championships 23 times.  With her dominant performances in the long jump, 55-meter hurdles, triple jump, 55-meter dash and most decisively the pole vault, Mayo-Smith was part of numerous Little East Conference and Alliance championship teams that helped Huskies women’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams to more than two decades of trophy lifting. 


      Although her outstanding performances at the conference and regional level are noteworthy on their own, Mayo-Smith earned the distinction of becoming the women’s indoor track & field team’s first All-American in 2006. Claiming the title of All-American in the pole vault, Mayo-Smith put together a history making 2005-2006 indoor track & field season, taking the top podium spot at the Little East Conference Championship and the New England Alliance Championship in the 55m hurdles, long jump and pole vault.  She followed that performance with All-Region honors at the New England Division III Championships in the same three events before claiming the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III title in the pole vault. 


      Mayo-Smith completed her standout season at the NCAA Division III National Championships competing at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.  The Huskies’ standout cleared 3.55 meters (11-7 ¾) on her second pass to finish seventh among the 15 qualified competitors to earn the All-American honor. 


      Distinguishing herself as one of the top track & field student-athletes in program history, Mayo-Smith, completed her degree in Psychology in 2008.  She went on to earn her Master’s degree in School Counseling from Rivier University in 2011.  Currently a stay-at-home mother to twin three-year-old girls, Mayo-Smith was a Mental Health Counselor with Riverbend Community Health.  She was also a volunteer track & field coach at her former high school for three years.  

 

Colin Reilly, Men’s Soccer, Class of 2009

      A three-time all-conference defender, Collin Reilly’s career as a Husky was marked by an upward trajectory, helping the Huskies to success on the field and culminating in his selection as the 2008 Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Year, a first-team All-Conference pick and a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-New England Region team.  


      As a junior, Reilly repeated as an all-conference selection, as USM finished second-place finishin the LEC, and scored the second goal of his career, a game-winning overtime marker in a 2-1 triumph against Salem State, helping secure the Huskies’ postseason bid into the ECAC tourney.  As a senior, Reilly led Southern Maine to the 2008 Little East Conference regular season title with a record of 6-1 in conference play and an overall record of 12-9-1.  Tallying one assist in his final season, Reilly was recognized for his play on the field and for his outstanding four years of intercollegiate leadership as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and a spot on the All-LEC first team.  Honored with a spot on the All-New England Region (fourth) team, Reilly was also selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star Game.  


      A four-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete, Reilly completed his degree in Business Administration in 2009, and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate at the University of Denver Sturm School of Law in 2016.  Earning his Bar Admission to six states/districts, Reilly is presently an Associate Attorney with Bourque, Clegg, Causey & Morin in Sanford, Maine. 

      

Nicole (Paradis) Pollock, Women’s Basketball, Class of 2010

      A two-time team captain, two-time Little East Conference champion and a four-time NCAA Division III National Championship tournament participant, Nicole (Paradis) Pollock, Class of 2010, is another in a long-line of outstanding point guards to wear a USM women’s basketball uniform.  


      Making an immediate impact her first season with the Huskies, Pollock earned Little East Conference and Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) All-Rookie Team honors after helping guide the Huskies to the 2007 Little East Conference regular season and conference tournament titles, and into the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen. 


      Earning first team MWBCA All-State and second team all-LEC honors in 2007-08 and 2008-09, Pollock’s leadership helped the Huskies earn the program’s 19th conference crown defeating rival Eastern Connecticut State University 64-59 on the Warriors home court. Paradis finished the game with seven points, five rebounds and three assists, including a game-tying three in the closing moments of the contest.  


      An adept passer and shooter, Pollock completed her outstanding four-year career with 837 points, 327 assists, and 171 steals. Known for her tenacity and spirited play, the 5-4 Pollock also rang up 14 career blocked shots, including a career and season best nine as a senior.  Her 113 career threes ranks 10th in the USM history book, while her 35.8 career three-point shooting percentage is seventh all-time. 


      A four-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete and Dean’s List student, Pollock earned her degree in Exercise Science (Health Fitness) in 2010.  Pollock is currently an Onboarding Specialist with Unum in Portland, Maine. 

 

Tyler Jasud, Men’s Cross Country, Track & Field, Class of 2011

      The first NCAA Division III All-American in University of Southern Maine men’s cross country program history, Tyler Jasudcompleted his career as a Husky as one of its most highly decorated student-athletes.  


      As a member of the Huskies’ cross country and track & field programs, Jasud was a two-time Little East Conference Runner of the Year (2008, 2009).  During the 2009 season, Jasud was in top form leading the team to the 2009 Little East Conference Championship.  He claimed the race’s individual crown with his first-place finish in a time of 26:02, outpacing his nearest competitor by 12 seconds.  Earning his spot in the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship race Jasud put forth an extraordinary effort to seal his name in the Husky record books placing 22nd overall in a field of 276 of the top Division III runners in the nation with a time of 25:58.1 to earn the distinction of All-American.  


      As a member of the Huskies’ indoor and outdoor track & field teams, Jasud battled through injuries to help his teams capture conference championships during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.  Using his prowess and grit in the distance events, Jasud was the Division III All-ECAC, Maine State Intercollegiate, New England Alliance and  Little East Conference Champion in the 5000 meters.  Additionally, Jasud placed second overall at the 2009 New England Division III Regional Championships in the same event. 


      Active in the Exercise Science Student Association (ESSA) during his time as a student-athlete, Jasud served as the student group’s as an officer and treasurer, and volunteered his time at the Gorham Nursing Home.  Earning his degree in Exercise Physiology in 2011, Jasud continued his education with Southern Maine and earned his Nursing degree in 2017.  He is presently a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Registered Nurse at MidCoast Hospital. 

 

Tucker White, Baseball, Class of 2013

       The first student-athlete to receive American Baseball Coaches Association’s (ABCA) Division III National Player of the Year honor from the storied history of the Huskies’ baseball program, Tucker White was a five-tool player for Southern Maine earning 19 individual accolades by the end of his four years with the Huskies.  


      During the 2012 season, White made himself among the best in the nation earning second team All-American honors from the ABCA and D3baseball.com as a designated hitter.  During that 2012 season, White hit .392 collected 73 hits in 186 at bats, including 10 doubles, 10 triples and seven home runs and drove in 49 runs.  White’s 10 triples led the NCAA Division III statistical category in that season.  In addition to his status as an All-American, White was named to the ECAC Division III, New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA), and D3baseball.com All-New England Region first team, and was selected to the LEC’s all-conference first team as a designated hitter. 


      In 2013, White took his play to another level, leading the Huskies to the 2013 LEC Championship, NCAA Division III New England Championship, and a second-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Division III World Series.  Named the 2013 ABCA/Rawlings Division III Player of the Year, White also earned first team All-American honors from the ABCA.  D3baseball.com also recognized White as the nation’s top Division III player, and named him to their first team squad.  White also topped ECAC Division III New England, NEIBA, D3baseball.com, National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association (NCBWA) Regional Player of the Team lists.  During the 2013 season, White hit a remarkable .400 with 86 hits, including 14 doubles, nine triples and 10 home runs while driving in 59 runs.  With a .688 slugging percentage, nearly 40 percent of White’s hits went for extra bases. 


      White finished his career with a .359 batting average (251 hits in 700 at bats) with 171 RBIs, 43 doubles, 27 triples and 22 home runs. 


      Completing his degree in Exercise Science (Health Fitness) in 2017, White is a General Contractor with TUKCOR Real Estate Development Company.
