Bangor, Maine - The Gracie Theatre at Husson University welcomes American classical pianist Teresa Walters on Sunday, January 26 at 3:00 pm. The program, Moonlight and Romance: Cameos of Great Composers and Well-Loved Melodies features the beloved Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, Franz Liszt’s Liebesträume Number Three in A flat Major and Romance by Clara and Robert Schumann.
Hailed as “one of the world’s most significant pianists” by Austrian National Television, Walters has performed as a recitalist and orchestral soloist on six continents, including most of the 50 states in the USA. While in America, Walters brought her prodigious musical gifts to New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center - where sold-out crowds gave her a standing ovation.
Other cultural centers that have featured concerts by Walters include Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris, Moscow's Great Hall, Australia's International Conservatorium and Jerusalem's Concert Hall. Audiences at Vienna's Beethoven Festival and Spanish music festivals in Barcelona and Madrid have reportedly delighted in Walter’s vast musical repertoire.
The concert Moonlight and Romance, will feature Sonata in C sharp Minor, Op.27, No. 2, “Moonlight” by Ludwig Beethoven, Etude in E major, Op.10, No. 3 by Frederic Chopin, Liebesträume in A flat (Dream of Love) by Franz Liszt and Romance, Op.5 No.3 by Clara Wieck-Schumann. Walters provides brief and engaging introductions to each musical selection as part of the performance.
Theresa Walters is the first American pianist invited by Hungary to present the Anniversary Concert in honor of Liszt's birthday. Prestigious invitations to perform at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and the Liszt Museum in Budapest as well as at Liszt's birthplace in Raiding and at Esterhazy Palace under the patronage of Prince Anton Esterhazy, attest to her growing reputation as one of the finest interpreters of Liszt today. In fact, the American Record Guide announced, "Her competition is virtually nil."
Recent honors include prestigious sponsorships by Copenhagen's Hungarian Embassy and Beijing's Forbidden City Concert Hall.
Walters’ performance is made possible, in part, by a charitable donation from the late John E. Kilgore, Jr. Kilgore, a former oil executive and venture capitalist, created an endowed fund at Husson University to support classical music performances, with an emphasis on piano recitals.
Tickets for the January 26 concert start at $15.00 for general seating and $5.00 for students. They are available at the box office, online at www.gracietheatre.com or by calling 941-7888.
Walters’ music is available in a new video and in two new CDs.
