ON YOUR MARK FOR THE FOURTH ANNUAL “RUN FOR THE HILLS”

Belfast, Maine - Coastal Mountains Land Trust presents the fourth annual Run for the Hills. This year’s 10K will be held Saturday, September 15 in Belfast. Registration opens at 7am at Waterfall Arts on 256 High Street in Belfast, and the race kicks off at 8:30.

Appropriately named, the hilly and rigorous 6.2-mile course gives both elite and casual runners the chance to strut their stuff - all for a good cause. All proceeds will directly fund Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s conservation work in the western Penobscot Bay Region.

The entry fee is $25 on or before September 1 and $30 after, and you can find online registration and other race details when you visit www.coastalmountains.org. Mail-in and same day registrations will be accepted. This year, the first 100 to register will receive a handmade stained glass sun catcher from local artisan Janet Redfield, and all participants will receive a goodie bag. Prizes will be awarded to the first man and woman overall.

The highly scenic course begins at Waterfall Arts and highlights the Land Trust’s Passagassawakeag Greenway, an on-going initiative to create a public trail network on conserved lands along the banks of the Passagassawakeag River. Runners will pass the Stover, Head of Tide and Stephenson Preserves before the finish on the Belfast Footbridge. A course map is available on the Land Trust website. Because of the nature of the course, dogs and strollers are not permitted.

If you’re not a runner but would like to be a part of this big event, race day volunteers are needed to assist with registration, directing runners on the course, and helping at the finish line. If you’re interested, contact Ellen Skoczenski at (207) 236-7091 or ellens@coastalmountains.org.

In addition to our generous lead sponsor Bank of America, the Land Trust is also grateful to other sponsors – Cold Mountain Builders, Darby’s Restaurant, Waldo County General Hospital, Consumers Fuel Co. and Front Street Shipyard. Coastal Mountains Land Trust would also like to thank Maine Sport, Snow, Sport and Spine, the Belfast Co-op and the Belfast Hannaford for their thoughtful contributions to prizes and refreshments.
