Camden/Rockport, Maine - Master Gardner Sharon Turner will lead a talk on the benefits of gardening on the human mind at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, March 24 from 12 to 1 pm.

In addition to being a great form of low-impact exercise, new studies have shown that gardening has a positive effect on the brain as well as the body. Formatted as an open discussion, Turner ‘s presentation will cover gardening’s effects on the senses, memory, stress relief, connection to the land, and meditative flow states. Attending gardeners are encouraged to share their own stories of how gardening has had a positive effect on their own mental states.

Turner is a certified Master Gardener, consultant, educator, and designer based in Washington, ME. She specializes in heirloom and open-pollinated vegetable and flower seedlings, as well as native perennials, shrubs, and trees. She grows for FedCo seeds. Turner also holds a degree in clinical counseling.

The Winter Talk series is co-sponsored by Allen Insurance & Financial and Farley & Son Landscaping. Tuesday Talks are open to the public for $5, with free admittance for Merryspring members.
