Indigo has been used as a dye for over 6000 years. Recent excavations in Peru have yielded cloth still remarkably blue from this natural, plant-based dye. Poole will explain her process of indigo dyeing and Japanese shibori design, as well as how to get started at home and a bit of history behind this traditional textile art.
Amelia Poole is a master indigo dyer and shibori artist. She owns and operates Ecouture Textiles, Studio, and Gallery, natural fiber art studio based in Brooksville, ME.
This program is part of the Winter Talk series at Merryspring, sponsored by Allen Insurance & Financial. Tuesday talks are open to the public for $5, with free admittance granted for members of Merryspring.
