10:45pm UPDATE....According to Washington Fire Department, At 5:45am on 1/23 members of Washington Fire Department were dispatched to Cattle Pound Road for a confirmed structure fire with residents unable to exit the structure. The first arriving units confirmed there were residents still inside, and a rescue attempt was made. It is with deep sadness that we report that the attempt was unsuccessful, and we have lost two beloved members of our community. All of our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
Mutual aid units from Jefferson, Liberty, Somerville, and Union provided much needed help during the fire. Thanks to the State Fire Marshall's office for their expert help today. Thanks to Knox EMA, EMS from Union, Waldoboro, and Northeast, and the Sherriff's office for their support. Finally, thank you to every member who provided their best today under the worst circumstances.
All units returned to quarters at approximately 2:48pm to begin returning the equipment to service.
8:00am UPDATE....According to WGME13, Knox County Sheriff's office confirmed to them one was transported and one, sadly did't make it out as the person was trapped inside.
6:07am UPDATE...Washington fire department car 2 has requested two more ambulances. Fire marshals has been requested to be notified.
BREAKING NEWS...Washington, Maine - Washington and area fire departments battling a house fire with one side fully involved at 12 Cattle Pound Rd off of Rt. 105 in Washington, Maine on Monday, January 23rd, 2017.
One burn victim with one believed to be still inside.
