“The First Crooner: Bing Crosby”

Michael Paul Lund

“The First Crooner: Bing Crosby ” August 23

Michael Paul Lund of Serendipity Records will present “The First Crooner: Bing Crosby” at the Camden Public Library on Thursday evening, August 23, at 6:30 pm. Bing Crosby (1903-1977) was the singer “for whom the word ‘crooner’ was penned,” according to Lund. This “music talk” will cover the life and times of the first great popular singer of the American songbook. It will feature solos and duets of Crosby with Paul Whiteman and the Rhythm Boys, the Mills Brothers, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dinah Shore, Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden, Fred Astaire, and the last song Crosby sang 72 hours before his sudden death.

Michael Paul Lund has delivered illustrated music talks all over the United States, including libraries, schools, and historical societies. He has done radio commentary on stations coast to coast, including his two hour specials on WGBH-FM in Boston. He regularly writes music criticism for major record companies in the form of liner notes, that accompany classic compact disk re-issues by legendary performers. Recordings by Bing Crosby will also be made available at this event.

“Bing Crosby paved the way for every major vocalist who followed him,” says Lund. “Join us for a fascinating musical journey.”
