Deer and moose are two of Maine’s most recognizable mammals. A wildlife biologist, Kantar will compare the ecology and natural histories of these two ungulates in his talk titled “Deer and Moose: Wrestling with the Elements.” In addition to describing the habitat, behavior, physiology, and adaptation strategies of these species, Kantar will divulge details about deer and moose monitoring efforts in the State of Maine.
Lee Kantar serves as the Deer and Moose Project Leader for Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Kantar has worked with a host of species through 20 years of wildlife experience. His current work includes aerial surveys for deer and moose abundance and population composition, as well as deer and moose disease monitoring and surveillance. Lee holds a BA in Anthropology from Brandeis University, a BS in Wildlife Management from the University of New Hampshire, and an MS in Wildlife Science from New Mexico State University.
