“A Knight’s Tale” August 14
This week’s Movie in the Amphitheatre will be “A Knight’s Tale” (2001; 132 min.; PG-13), starting at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 14. In case of rain the movie will be postponed. The movie is part of the Camden Public Library’s “A Renascence Summer.” The series, generously supported by The First Bancorp, includes music, movies, and Millay events in celebration of poetry and Millay’s “discovery” a century ago at the Whitehall Inn in Camden.
Inspired by “The Canterbury Tales,” as well as the story of Ulrich von Lichtenstein, this is the story of William, a young squire with a gift for jousting. After his master dies suddenly, the squire hits the road with his cohorts Roland and Wat. On the journey, they stumble across an unknown writer, Chaucer. William, lacking a proper pedigree, convinces Chaucer to forge genealogy documents that will pass him off as a knight. With his newly-minted history in hand, the young man sets out to prove himself a worthy knight at the country’s jousting competition, and finds romance along the way. Directed by Brian Helgeland and starring Heath Ledger.
The final movie in the series will be “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” rescheduled for Monday, August 20, at 7:45 pm. Bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating.
