Husson (0-3) fell into a 1-0 hole with one out in the top of the sixth, when Farmer reached on an error by shortstop Mike Wong and scored on a groundout by Mount St. Joseph (8-0) first baseman Austin Richey.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth, the Eagles got on the board with two runs off three hits to take the lead. Left fielder Alex Chapman reached on a fielder's choice with two outs and moved up to second base as a result of a single by Wong before scoring on an two run double by second baseman Ryan Rebar.
The Lions tied the game in the top of the ninth when left fielder Grayson Roberts singled and later
scored on a RBI fielder's choice by shortstop Matt Hofmann.
Pitchers Steven Hanscom, Ryan Allender, Hofmann, Ethan Bonnell and Mike Hilliard kept the game tied until the top of the 14th inning when Mount St. Joseph's third baseman Simon Schaefer led off the inning with a single up the middle, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out by Hofmann and scored on Farmer's single to left field. The Lions added insurance runs on right fielder Nathan Hunter's double to right centerfield and Richey singled through the left side.
Right-handed pitcher Chris Honebrink pitched a scoreless bottom to pick up his first save on the season.
For the Eagles, Wong was 3-5 with a run scored and third baseman Sam Huston singled in the 13th, and designated hitter Zach Sugar's single in the 8th accounted for the Eagles other two hits in the setback. Starting pitcher Tommy Burns allowed four hits, one unearned run and fanned a pair with three walks in six innings while Hanscom pitched 4.0 innings in relief, allowed six hits and one earned run and Allender allowed two hits over 3.0 frames. Austin Smith took the lost after yielding three earned runs off four hits in one inning of work.
For the Lions, Schaefer was 5-6 with a run, and a double, Hunter went 3-5 with a run, a two-bagger and an RBI while Farmer, second baseman Mike Williams and left fielder Grayson Roberts each added two hits apiece. Richey led the team with two runs batted in. Hilliard picked up the win after allowing one hit and one walk in one inning of relief work. Starting pitcher Nick Gunnell allowed no hits, walked four batters and fanned three in 4.1 innings.
The Lions' pitching staff didn't allow an Eagle hit until one out in the bottom of the 6th when Wong singled to right field off Jacob Gunnell to the end the no-hit bid.
Prior to this afternoon, Husson and Mount St. Joseph last met on the baseball diamond in 2007 when the Lions defeated the Eagles 11-0. Mount St. Joseph holds a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series with the victory. The lone Husson win came in 2005 during Head Coach Jason Harvey's '06 junior season by a score of 10-6.
The 14 innings played today tied the school record for most innings pitched in a single game that was set in 2005 when the Eagles hosted University of Maine at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex. The Eagles lost the game to the Black Bears by a score of 4-3.
The Eagles return to the diamond this afternoon for their annual Florida doubleheader with WPI. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in Auburndale, Fla. Mount St. Joseph plays a single nine inning game with Muskingum at 3:00 p.m. in Winter Haven, Fla.
