Egan Art Show Opening Reception May 2
Maureen Egan, May’s Artist of the Month at the Camden Public Library, will exhibit a collection of her paintings in “The Light From Here,” an art show featuring paintings and prints by the Rockport artist. The exhibit will be on display at the Camden Public Library’s Picker Room through the month of May. An opening talk and reception will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 4:00 pm.
“The Light From Here” traces the artist’s five-year journey through anxiety, a cancer diagnosis, and healing. Using color and symbolism as tools to express her feelings, Egan discovered a way through her difficulties. “I was able to process what felt constrictive and dark within me, and transform it into beauty and color on the canvas. In addition, many of the paintings celebrate the expansion of my heart, the result of all that I received as a cancer patient.” The paintings are 12″ x 12″ acrylics on canvas.
The artist began writing essays several years ago to accompany the images she was creating. She is currently working on a a book that will include 26 personal essays describing her healing experience, each one accompanied by a painting, all of which will be on display at the show.
