Rockland, Maine - The RSU13 serving Rockland, Owls Head, Thomaston, Cushing, St. George and South Thomaston has released how snow days will be made up. In their plan RSU13 students will be making up snow days by going to school on four Saturdays, half days. RSU13 has had ten snow days this winter season.
RSU13 released this following statement on how snow days will be made up on their site, rsu13.org.
Dear Parents and Community Members,
This year due to the severe winter, students have missed a lot of school. We have experienced ten snow days to date. State law requires that students attend school a minimum of 175 days, and seniors a minimum of 170. There is very little if any, flexibility in this requirement. It is imperative that we provide the required number of instructional days, therefore, it has been decided that school will be in session for a previously planned professional development day, March 13, as an early release day for students, and four additional Saturdays, March 28, April 11, May 9 and May 16, all of which will be early release days. Our school calendar has been revised accordingly and is available on our website, www.rsu13.org, and in each of our schools.
We would like to emphasize that we are providing regular instruction and meaningful activities on all the scheduled days and expect your children to attend if at all possible. We know that you and your children may have prior commitments on some of the days scheduled. As with any other regularly scheduled school day, you are certainly free to use your discretion regarding attendance in these cases. It is our desire and intention to ensure that all of our students are provided the time and attention that they need for the balance of the school year.
