Lithgow Library in Augusta is moving

Exciting Changes Ahead!

By Sarah Schultz-Nielsen,

Assistant Director and Youth Services Librarian

For the first time in 120 years, Lithgow Public Library will operate from a different location than its iconic granite building at Winthrop and State Streets. The library will be closed, starting Monday, April 13th, and will re-open sometime in mid-May in its temporary home at the Ballard Center (former MaineGeneral Medical Center) on East Chestnut Street.  The library will also change some of its methods of delivering services.  We hope these changes will mean more efficient and higher quality interactions with our visitors.

There will be one Circulation Desk where users of all ages can check out and return items; pick up holds, borrow the Friends of Lithgow Library park/museum passes and sign up for a library card.  Staff at the Adult Reference Desk will help information seekers, readers and public computer users.  Lastly, staff at the Youth Services Reference Desk can provide reading suggestions, help with homework or provide access to computers and our early literacy iPad.

One thing that will remain the same is the staff. You will still see the same helpful people who have a combined 167 years of experience working at Lithgow.  We look forward to seeing you in our new home!
