3-run ninth for the 'Dogs, win 7-4 at Bowie

Bowie, Maryland - Carson Blair snapped a 4-4 with an RBI single during a three-run ninth inning, as the Sea Dogs (74-44) beat the Bowie Baysox (57-60), 7-4 on Wednesday night at Prince George's Stadium.

Blair's game-winning RBI came in his Double-A debut as Portland's designated hitter. The Argyle, Texas native went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.  Shannon Wilkerson capped off the victory, nailing a two-run single with two outs off Jake Pettit.

Aaron Kurcz (3-2) worked 2.2 scoreless frames on one hit and three strikeouts to earn the win. Dayan Diaz worked around a lead-off double in the ninth to secure his first save in the Red Sox system.

Julio DePaula (0-3) took the loss for Bowie, giving up three runs on three hits over .2 innings pitched.

Bowie's offense went to work right away, scoring in their first turn off Luis Diaz (ND). Former Sea Dog Ronald Bermudez knocked in the first run, delivering a bases-loaded sac-fly.  In the second, Bowie took a 2-0 lead on a solo-homer by Chris Marrero.

Portland rebounded by scoring three 2-out runs in the fourth off Eddie Gamboa. Keury De La Cruz and Blair started the rally with walks, and moved up on a wild pitch. Jonathan Roof tied the game with a single, and later scored the go-ahead run on a single by Mike Brenly.

Sean Coyle continued his terrific first season in Double-A, nailing an RBI single in the fifth to give Portland a 4-2 lead. The 'Dogs knocked Gamboa out of the game later in the inning. The knuckleballer gave up four hits, four runs, six walks, fanned five and threw four wild pitches over 4.1 IP.

The Sea Dogs had chances to add more runs early in the game, but left seven runners over innings 5-7, scoring just one run.

Bowie knocked Diaz out of the game in the sixth inning, tying the game at four.  Chris Marrero drew a bases-loaded walk, the final batter Diaz faced.  Kurcz allowed the game-tying run on a sac-fly by Glynn Davis.  Diaz worked 5.1 innings, walking a career-high 5 batters on four runs, five hits and one strikeout.

Portland clinched their first road-series win since the end of June in Reading, and reached 30 games over .500 for the fourth time this season.

The Sea Dogs and Baysox resume their three-game series with the finale, tonight at 6:35 PM from Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. RHP Justin Haley (0-1, 1.50) is slated to go for Portland and will be matched up against LHP Nick Additon (0-0, 0.00) of the Baysox.
