LITHGOW LIBRARY TO HOST SECOND NIGHT OF POETRY & MUSIC ON 4/24

Augusta, Maine - The second program in Lithgow Public Library’s popular poetry and music series will be held on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m.  The evening will showcase the talents of nationally known poets Dave Morrison and Kristen Lindquist, along with musician Sara Hallie Richardson.

The poetry/music program will be held in the Reading Room, and is free and open to the public.

Lindquist, a Camden-based poet, blogger and naturalist, publishes a daily original haiku on her blog, Book of Days, at klindquist.blogspot.com.  She works for a coastal Maine land trust, and her latest book of poems is titled Transportation.

Morrison is a writer of novels, short stories and poetry.  His work has been widely published in literary magazines and anthologies. Years before he was a Camden-based poet, Morrison played guitar in rock & roll bars in Boston and New York City.  Morrison has published nine books of poetry, including the recently released Stethoscope.

"A stethoscope is a device," said Morrison, "for listening to one’s pulse and breath, for making sense of complex inner mechanisms – and a poem can be the same kind of device.”

Both Morrison and Lindquist’s poems have been featured on NPR’s Writer’s Almanac.

Portland-based singer/songwriter Richardson has been performing and writing music in folk, indie and electronic styles. With influences such as Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Bjork and Feist, Richardson's songs have won her honors at the University of Maine, where she earned a BA in music. In 2012 she released a six-song EP called “Restless,” and she has performed with Maine bands including the Rustic Overtones and musician Kyle Gervais.

“My music consists of original folk songs inspired by my folky upbringing, and also electronic/ digital songs,” Richardson said.

Lithgow Library is located at 45 Winthrop Street in Augusta.  For more information, call the library at 626-2415 or visit the library’s website at www.lithgow.lib.me.us.
