Worcester, MA – Tobias Rieder and Chris Brown scored a pair of goals to give the Pirates their second victory over the Worcester Sharks this weekend by a score of 4-3. Mark Visentin won his second straight game in his 6th consecutive start, making 30 saves in the win.
Tobias Rieder was the star for the Pirates in the first. Rieder tallied his third goal of the year with16:05 left in the first to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Adam Comrie tied the game for the Sharks at 12:17 of the first on a power play tally after Andy Miele took a hooking call, but Rieder struck back, netting his second goal of the period with 3:01 left in the first. Rieder’s second of the game and 4th of the season was assisted by Brendon Yip and Tim Kennedy, with Kennedy’s assist his first for the Pirates since 2009. Despite being outshot 11-5 in the first, the Pirates took a 2-1 lead into the intermission.
The Sharks would strike back in the second, again tying the game. Nick Petrecki got the tally at 6:58 of the second period, assisted by Danill Tarasov and Freddie Hamilton. Despite numerous power play opportunities for the Pirates at the end of the second, the period ended with a 2-2 score.
The Sharks took their first lead of the game 3:52 into the 3rd period. James Livingston took a Sena Acolatse pass and put it past Mark Visentin to give the Sharks a 3-2 lead. Then Chris Brown took over for the Pirates. Brown tied the game with 11:59 to go in the third with his second goal of the season, and followed his tally with another just under 4 minutes later, taking a Tim Kennedy feed and giving the Pirates the go ahead goal. Andy Miele added his 4th assist of the year on Brown’s second goal of the game. Despite a flurry of shots at the end, Visentin stood strong and the Pirates won their second game against the Sharks this weekend.
In just his third game of the season, Tobias Rieder had his second two goal game and now sits second on the team with 4 goals. Tim Kennedy added a pair of assists and Lucas Lessio and Brandon Yip added assists as well to extend their point streaks to two games.
The Pirates get back to action on Friday at home as they look to even up the VIP Cup Series presented by VIP Tires and Service against the Manchester Monarchs.
