"Blue Lantern" is headed to the Bluegrass State

Kentucky Watercolor Society Selects
Linda Norton¹s New Work for Aqueous USA 2013.

Camden, Maine November 14, 2013 Linda Norton¹s recent work entitled Blue
Lantern has been juried into the Kentucky Watercolor Society¹s prestigious
Aqueous USA 2013 exhibition. The still life image was captured aboard the
Schooner Victory Chimes.

Blue Lantern was one of 68 works selected for Aqueous USA 2013 by
distinguished juror, John Salminen. ³Being chosen from the large and diverse
field of entries is indeed a significant career achievement and a measure of
accomplishment few artists attain,² said Sue Hinkebein, Chair of Aqueous USA
2013 in a recent letter informing Linda of her selection into the show.

³I¹m so honored to be included in this exhibition and especially one that
was juried by John Salminen, an award-winning watercolor artist and a
signature member of many watercolor societies,² said Norton after learning
that her painting was juried into Aqueous 2013. The artist describes the
painting in the following excerpt from her notes:

³One lantern, two lantern, three lantern, Blue Lantern² . . .this became my
mantra as l worked my way through painting all the reflections and smoky
glass. I had discovered the lanterns that are used as guide lights for
passengers and crew when nightfall arrives. They were hanging in a storage
room and l almost passed them by but their importance and the challenge drew
me in. Admittedly l avoided doing anything with all the reference sketches
and photos for quite a few years but that little nagging memory wouldn¹t
quit so here they are waiting for the kerosene and next match. Waiting to
draw the next person into the memory of waves lapping against the hull, and
quiet conversations with new friends.

The Kentucky Watercolor Society¹s 36th Annual National Juried Competition,
Aqueous USA 2013 runs from October 28 to December 23, 2013 in Louisville,
Kentucky.
