Sea Dogs rally and top New Britain in extra innings 6-5

New Britain, Connecticut - The Sea Dogs mounted a late inning rally and defeated New Britain in extra innings, 6-5 on Saturday night at New Britain Stadium. Travis Shaw's RBI single in the top of the tenth knocked in Shannon Wilkerson for the go-ahead run.

Chris Martin (1-0) pitched three innings of shutout relief to earn the win. Brock Huntzinger came on in the bottom half of the tenth and earned his third save of the year.

Kyle Kaminska worked five innings for the Sea Dogs, giving up four runs on seven hits. He struck out three and did not issue any walks.

New Britain's Alex Meyer also went five innings. He gave up two runs on six hits and struck out six Portland batters.

The Sea Dogs wasted no time getting on the board. Shaw and Tony Thomas both hit RBI doubles to give Portland the lead 2-0 in the top of the first.

New Britain would tie the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth. Evan Bigley reached on an infield single to shortstop scoring Nathan Hanson. The next batter was Curt Smith, who lined a double down the left field line scoring Josmil Pinto to make the score 2-2.

The Rock Cats would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Dan Rohfing scored on a Kaminska wild pitch to give New Britain the lead 3-2. Hanson singled to left scoring Antoan Richardson to make the score 4-2.

Daniel Bard pitched the sixth inning. He gave up one run on a Richardson RBI single to give New Britain a 5-2 lead. Bard struck out one and walked one.

Portland would bring the score within two runs in the top of the seventh as Thomas knocked his second RBI double of the ballgame scoring Peter Hissey to make it 5-3 New Britain.

The Sea Dogs' rally would continue in the eighth. Derrik Gibson would reach on an error by shortstop Danny Santana, scoring Christian Vazquez to make the score 5-4. The Sea Dogs would tie the ballgame at 5-5 on a Wilkerson RBI triple to left.

The Sea Dogs and Rock Cats (Twins affiliate) conclude their 3-game series from New Britain Stadium tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 PM. Connecticut native Matt Barnes makes his second start for Portland. Left-hander Blake Martin gets the starting nod for the Rock Cats.
