Dean Stevens To Perform In Camden
Dean Stevens at Camden Library Coffeehouse May 2
Dean Stevens, musician, Spanish interpreter, Central America traveler, climate agitator, and concert organizer, will be the performer at the upcoming Camden Library Coffeehouse on Thursday, May 2, at 7:00 pm. Stevens is a favorite performer and a giant in folk and acoustic music. Local audiences will have seen him perform at David Dodson’s annual concerts and will now have an opportunity to hear a full evening of Dean and his music. Admission to the Coffeehouse is $8 at the door. David Dodson will also make a “special guest” appearance at the performance.
For twenty five years Dean Stevens has delighted audiences of all ages throughout the Americas. An exuberant performer of distinctive style and wit, he combines an intricate, self-taught guitar style with a versatile and expressive singing voice. He has established himself as a formidable creator and interpreter of a wide spectrum of songs in English and Spanish. His own material explores a variety of personal and social topics, paints sketches of people and places, celebrates the Earth, and annoys the narrow minded.
Born and raised in Costa Rica, Dean Stevens is a lifelong student of Latin America. He learned Spanish at an early age, and readily absorbed the musical and topical influences of the region. He travels frequently to Central America, and has become known for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of refugees returning to their homes in El Salvador and Guatemala.
Dean Stevens has five highly acclaimed recordings to his credit. His 2009 release, “At Last” (Volcano Records), is a collection of songs in English and Spanish, with guest appearances by Kallett, Epstein and Cicone, David Dodson, Aoife O’Donovan, Billy Novick and Bob Lucas, co-produced with Eric Kilburn.
“Seeing and hearing Dean Stevens live on stage is proof that sanity, literacy, love, hope, and the forces of good are still alive and well and at work in the universe.” ~ Geoff Bartley
