Britton shines in Portland's 5-2 win over Reading

Christian Vazquez finishes 2-for-3, HR and 3 RBI
Portland, Maine - Drake Britton (1-1) fired six strong innings on four hits and one run, leading the Sea Dogs (2-4) past the Reading Fightin Phils (4-3) 5-2 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.

Christian Vazquez provided the game-winning RBI, smacking a three-run homer over the Maine Monster in the sixth, to give Portland a 5-1 lead. Vazquez went 2-for-3 with a double and threw out two runners trying to steal.

Britton notched Portland's first quality start of the season, throwing 49 of 66 pitches for strikes.  His lone blemish came in the first inning on a run-scoring single by Jim Murphy.  The left-hander did not issue a walk and fanned four.

Reading's Jesse Biddle suffered the loss. The top prospect in Philadelphia's organization according to Baseball America, yielded five runs (four earned) over six innings.

Brock Huntzinger worked around a lead-off walk in the ninth inning to secure his second save of the season.

Portland grabbed a 2-1 lead with a two-spot in the second.   Michael Almanzar began the inning with a walk, and advanced to third base on Vazquez's double.  Derrik Gibson tied the game with a ground out and Ronald Bermudez nailed an RBI double.

Miguel Celestino worked two innings in relief of Britton, and allowed a solo-homer to Ron Welty in the eighth.

Wednesday's game lasted just 2 hours and 17 minutes, the shortest game of the year.
