Westport Island, Maine - On August 21, the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT) invites the public to visit the Squire Tarbox Farm for a farmer-lead tour and a picnic at the land trust's coastal Bonyun Preserve on Westport Island.
Starting at 11:00 am, farmers Kyle De Pietro and Angie Trombley-De Pietro will provide a tour of Squire Tarbox Farm including discussion of crops, growing methods, history of the property, and time for questions. The De Pietros grow a wide variety of edibles and have earned certification from the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardner’s Association. Produce will be available for purchase following the tour.
After the tour, participants are invited to a guided walk and waterfront picnic at KELT’s Bonyun Preserve located a mere five minutes drive from the farm. The hike will be led by Archie Bonyun, son of the donors of the conservation land. Lunch will be provided by the Starlight Cafe in Bath.
There is a $20 fee for the farm tour and lunch; reservations required. Contact the KELT office at bkolak@kennebecestuary.org or 442-8400 for reservations.
