Owls Head, Maine - “A veritable history lesson in automobile manufacturing, “ says executive director and auctioneer Charles Chiarchiaro referring to the selection of up to 200 vehicles expected to be for sale at the Owls Head Transportation Museum’s 35th annual New England Auto Auction of antique, classic and special interest vehicles. The event takes place August 25 on museum grounds.
From the simple appeal of a 1923 Ford Model T to the V-12 elegance of a 1931 Cadillac convertible coupe, to classic sports cars like a 1967 Austin Healey 3000, to the top-down fun of a 1949 Willys Jeepster convertible, the selection runs the gamut in size, shape and style.
“This isn’t just an auction,” explains Chiarchiaro. “It’s one of the best car shows in New England.” He said he is pleased with the variety of vehicles being offered in this year’s sale. "There is a car for all tastes and budgets."
A photo gallery of vehicles currently consigned may be viewed on the museum’s website at www.owlshead.org. Consignments are still being accepted though space is limited.
The museum will hold a week-long preview for the event. Preview days are scheduled for Monday August 20 through the morning of the sale. The formal preview and bidder registration will be August 24. Preview hours are 9:30 to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Gates open at 7 am on the morning of the sale. The auction begins at 9:30 am.
The 35th Annual New England Auto Auction will attract bidders from around the globe. Absentee bidding is welcome. There’s plenty of seating for spectators as well. It’s a full day of excitement whether you’re looking to buy the car of your dreams or just watching as others make their dreams come true.
