It may surprise some to learn that dirt is the number one pollutant in Maine’s waterways. Carried into rivers and streams by runoff from roads and lawns, excess dirt and other pollutants are harmful for watershed ecosystems. Packard will speak about the importance of controlling runoff, outline some low-impact erosion control and prevention methods, and describe upcoming regulations regarding erosion control in Maine.
Based in Union, Maine, Packard is the owner and operator of Down to Earth, a small site work company focused on solving customer issues, with a focus on drainage and runoff. He is certified by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection as both a “lake smart” contractor and an erosion control contractor.
