AUGUSTA, Maine – In honor of former First Lady Nancy Reagan, Governor Paul R. LePage has ordered U.S. flags and State of Maine flags lowered on all public buildings and grounds to half-staff immediately and until sunset on the day of interment.
Governor Paul R. LePage has issued the following statement:
"Nancy Reagan was deeply devoted to her husband and she will be remembered for her love for him and our nation. She was an exceptional First Lady whom the United States was fortunate to have championing drug abuse awareness and education. She was fierce against the fight against drugs and in her own battle against breast cancer. She demonstrated her strength and devotion to President Reagan, as well, as a loving and loyal wife who cared for him so many years. She was committed to the President and her country and for this we are grateful and saddened to know she is gone. Ann and I send our deepest condolences to her children, family and loved ones and offer our prayers on the passing of a wonderful woman, cherished wife and First Lady, Nancy Reagan."
