GORHAM, Maine – Dan Dutcher, NCAA Vice President for Division III,
will be on the Gorham campus of the University of Southern Maine on
Wednesday, September 23. Originally from Biddeford, Maine, Dutcher will
join USM Athletics, campus leaders and selected student-athletes for
dinner and an open discussion about collegiate athletics.
“This is an excellent opportunity for our staff and student-athletes
to learn from a person who has excelled in their field and ascended to
the top of the NCAA,” noted USM Director of Athletics Al Bean. “Dan has
been very generous with his time to Huskies’ athletics and is happy and
excited to join us for good conversation and discuss new legislation and
other trends and changes at the Association and in collegiate
athletics.”
Dutcher joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1986
as a legislative services assistant before being promoted to director of
legislative services in 1991, and then to his current position on the
NCAA President's Cabinet in 1996. He serves as chief staff liaison to
the Division III Presidents and Management Councils, and oversees the 33
other governance committees in Division III. Prior to joining the NCAA,
Dutcher worked as an attorney for Hobbins and Martin in Saco, Maine.
He earned his bachelor of arts from the University of Notre Dame in
1981 and his juris doctorate from the University of Kansas in 1984.
