Harding Arrested After Evading Knox County Sheriff

On April 8, 2015, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Joslyn went to a residence in search of Ronald Harding Jr., 40, of Owls Head who had a warrant for his arrest on him.  Upon pulling into the driveway, Deputy Joslyn saw Mr. Harding sitting in the driver's seat of his truck. As Deputy Joslyn approached Harding to affect the arrest, Harding saw Deputy Joslyn and immediately exited his truck and ran for his house in an attempt to evade arrest. Deputy Josyln gave chase yelling for Harding to stop and that he was under arrest.  Joslyn was able to tackle Mr. Harding just as he was entering the residence. A scuffle ensued as Harding refused to submit to arrest. While scuffling, Deputy Josyln noticed Harding trying to get a dagger out of his jacket sleeve. Deputy Joslyn disarmed Harding of the knife.  At that point, Harding pulled a pistol from his side. Deputy Josyln was also able to get the pistol away from Harding.  Harding continued to try and get his hand back on the pistol as Deputy Josyln continued to pull Harding away from it. Deputy Josyln was able to hold Mr. Harding away from the gun until Deputy Spear arrived for assistance.  Harding continued to resist arrest while Deputies Spear and Joslyn were hand cuffing him. He was eventually restrained. A search of Harding produced an electronic stun device, a steel baton, and several other knives.   It was also discovered that the gun was a loaded .40 caliber pistol.

Harding received a small cut to the bridge of his nose and tongue as a result of the altercation. Deputy Joslyn sustained an injury to his hand. Harding was transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center by Rockland EMS. He was treated and taken to the Knox County Jail where he was charged with the warrant for a Criminal Mischief, Class C and as a result of the incident was also charged with Refusing to Submit to Arrest, Class D, Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Class C, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon, class D.

Deputy Joslyn was treated at Penobscot Bay Medical Center and released.
