Falmouth, Maine – Pirates, dancing, and sword fighting, all presented with a comic flair. Maine State Ballet’s premiere of the popular Le Corsaire will bring this spectacular production to Maine with weekend performances beginning Saturday, March 28 and ending Sunday, April 12 at the Maine State Ballet Theater in Falmouth.
Maine State Ballet’s new production Le Corsaire, (the Pirate), is a treasure trove of virtuoso dancing and swashbuckling comedy about Conrad, a dashing pirate, and his love for Medora, a beautiful harem girl. Staged by artistic director, Linda MacArthur Miele, this exotic tale journeys through a tapestry of captive maidens, rich sultans, sword fights and rescues. The production boasts $30,000 worth of new sets and costumes by designer Gail Csoboth and a cast of 90 performers. The pirate tale perfectly showcases the bravura dancing from Maine State Ballet’s roster of company dancers.
This is the first full three-act ballet Maine State Ballet has premiered since Swan Lake in 2006.
